VTT Adventure Modules & Deluxe Box Sample Photos!
almost 2 years ago – Thu, Mar 23, 2023 at 07:48:59 AM

Hi Everyone!

Sorry this update is a few days late, it took a bit longer than expected to get the VTT adventure modules through a few rounds of edits and then approved by the various platforms. I wanted to wait until they were all ready before making this post.

If your pledge included either the Foundry VTT or Roll20 VTT packs, you should have just received an email that you have a new digital download available. If you can't find the email, just log in to your Backerkit account and head to the digital downloads section. You can find all the digital content, including the VTT codes, there.

Read through the VTT specific section below for instructions on how to get your VTT packs.

Foundry VTT

You will have received a unique 24 digit code formatted like this XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX

To use this code to redeem your content, follow the instructions found here

Roll20

You will have received a unique 15 digit code formatted like this XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX

To use this code to redeem your content, follow the instructions found here

Product Sample Photos

We are getting samples of all physical products from a couple of different manufacturers to make sure we are giving you the best possible quality. The samples are mostly complete and we have been sent some initial photos, which you can see below.

We should be receiving all of the samples in person by the end of the month so we can take some better pictures to share, make our final decisions on who are manufacturing partner will be, and then hit go on mass production! This puts us very much on schedule to get your books to you by October as promised, but we will keep you updated if anything changes.

Projects I love

Book of Extinction from Mage Hand Press

I have an awesome new project to share with you all from my very good friends at Mage Hand Press! The Book of Extinction is live right now on Kickstarter.

Introducing the Book of Extinction, a new and exciting way to experience the world of biology and conservation through the lens of Dungeons & Dragons! This D&D 5e supplement tells the real stories of extinct animals and presents them as D&D monsters. Thanks to a partnership with the Center of Biological Diversity, this book has an actual science consultant to ensure that every story is as accurate as it is heartbreaking and educational.

The Book of Extinction offers something for every player and DM. With new “endling” races, subclasses for every class, and “reduxed” classic monsters—like dragons made of wood—it contains enough content for years of play.

But it's not just entertainment—the book also teaches important lessons about conservation and biology, making it the perfect supplement for educators and parents looking to spark their children's curiosity about the natural world. Back the Kickstarter today!

Badge Quest from DMDave

Introducing the Badge Quest Complete Gamebook, the ultimate guide to cookie-selling horror roleplaying adventures! Join the Brave Blossoms as they navigate through a strange neighborhood, solve supernatural mysteries, and try to sell the most cookies in the annual cookie sale competition.

With complete rules for character creation, game mechanics, and dozens of badges that characters can earn, players can fully immerse themselves in the world of the Brave Blossoms.

More Digital Content!
about 2 years ago – Wed, Feb 01, 2023 at 11:31:02 AM

Hey Everyone!

Just a quick update to let you know that the last 2 adventure module PDFs have been added to the Complete Digital Bundle, so you now have the complete set! To access them, follow the same link in your Downloads page on Backerkit, or from the email you received and open up the 'Adventure Module' folder. The 2 new adventures are in the 'Dungeons & Crypts' and 'Swamps & Ruins' folders.

Digital Add-On Content

If you also pledged for any of the extra digital add-on packs, such as the Asset Megabundles, CR11-30 Creature Tokens or one of the other themed map sets, you should have also received a link to those in the last few days.

The CR11-30 Creature Tokens pack currently only has tokens up to CR20, but the rest will be added soon. Rather than make you wait until they were all ready, I thought it was better to send what we have to you as soon as possible.

If you didn't get any of the digital add-ons as part of your pledge, but would now like to, they are still available on the pre-order store. They add another 400+ Battlemaps, 8000+ Assets and 50+ Creature Tokens to your collection.

VTT Bundles

Now that the whole OGL situation has been resolved we have been able to carry on with the VTT bundles, but they are going to be coming a little later than planned. The map sets for Foundry & Alchemy are done, and 5 of the 6 books are finished on Roll20. Now we just need to add the Adventure Modules and get the download codes organised, so they should be ready in the next couple of weeks!

Surveys

There a still about 40 of you who haven't completed your backer survey, or whose cards have been declined. If you think you should have received your digital downloads, but haven't yet, please go back to check these are both in order. You can always message me if you having any issues.

Projects We Love

If you are looking for some more awesome Kickstarters to back then here are a couple I highly recommend. The first is from our very own Splattered Ink, the token artist for all of the SRD creature tokens.

RPG Essentials from Splattered Ink

Many of you will know Darryl as the artist who creates the top down tokens for my Patreon and Kickstarter. If you have been thinking how great it would be to be able to use his artwork in your physical games at a table and not just online you are in luck! Every token Darryl has created for me is available as part of the Kickstarter. These are the perfect accompaniment to my battlemap books.

RPG Essentials offers a new perspective on fantasy gaming minis. These acrylic, top-down tokens are durable, portable, and a great price on Kickstarter. Each monster is illustrated from above so they beautifully and seamlessly integrate into your TTRPG maps. Every illustration is painstakingly detailed by Darryl.

● Immersive and dynamic game play has never been easier

● Bring every encounter to life

● Enjoy more engaging and tactical combat

● Fill your dungeons, forests, caves, and cities

You no longer have to use coins to represent creatures in your games! RPG Essentials has monsters for every adventure! All tokens have at least one variant available, such as different equipment or colors. They are beautifully illustrated on durable, flat acrylic so that they are easy to store and carry, all at a fraction of the price of standard minis!

Witchy Cakes from Mage Hand Press

If you don't already know Mage Hand Press from their epic 'Dark Matter' and 'Valda's Spire of Secrets' projects, then maybe you know them as the creators of the opendnd.games website and one of the leaders of the #OpenDnD movement. When most people would be spending the weeks leading up to a Kickstarter fully on promoting their new project, the Mage Hand Press team has instead selflessly given up countless hours of their time to help the community.

Witchy Cakes is an adorable, easy-to-learn card game and above all, a magically good time. They’ve even written a D&D adventure named The Witching Flour to go along with it and they’re giving it to you for free (attached to this post)!

Get ready for some spellbinding fun with Witchy Cakes, the competitive card game that will have you and your friends duking it out to create the tallest, most enchanted cake. With adorable coven cards, special Secret Ingredient cards, and coveted Recipe cards, there's never a dull moment in Witchy Cakes. Plus, with easy-to-learn gameplay and a quick playtime, it's the perfect game for all ages, starting at 8 years old. Support us on Kickstarter and join the cake-throwing competition today!

I have been lucky enough to see the cards and try out the game in person and it is incredibly easy to pick up, a lot of fun and has some of the most adorable artwork I have ever seen in a card game.

Deep Magic 2 from Kobold Press

In case you haven't already heard, our friends at Kobold Press are currently running a Kickstarter for their new Deep Magic 2 book, the next instalment in their popular series presenting potent new options for game masters and players with a penchant for enchantment. And fully compatible with the evolution of the world's first tabletop RPG! They have also promised it will be compatible with the upcoming 'Project Black Flag'

The Kickstarter is on target to be their most successful to date, they have already passed the 200k mark with over 2 weeks still to go! This has meant loads of awesome stretch goals have been unlocked, including their Arcane Chamber Map Tiles, which are being created by me! If you haven't already backed the Kickstarter and are looking for an excuse to do so, these exclusive printed map tiles will be sent out to everyone who pledges $125 or more.

The set will include mysterious, magical, and just plain wild rooms, such as an alchemist's workshop, wizard dueling room, hidden druid circle, and elemental nodes. Each room is designed to fit well into any dungeon, wizard’s tower, arcane library, or other mystical location. Map tiles are these rooms printed on 7 inches x 7 inches hefty, wet/dry-erase card stock. This pack will include 12 map tiles with a room printed on each side for a total of 24 of these magical rooms.

The Complete Digital Bundle is Live!
about 2 years ago – Thu, Jan 12, 2023 at 07:46:50 AM

Hey everyone!

The Complete Digital Bundle is now live and accessible through your BackerKit account!

How do I Access my Downloads?

If you backed the Digital Bundle Tier, or any tier over £25, or purchased it as an add-on, you should receive an email from BackerKit that will direct you to your downloads for the Into the Wilds project. Alternatively you can just log in to your BackerKit Backer account.

Head to your BackerKit Homepage, or follow the email link
Access your Digital Download for Into the Wilds

Once you have found that there is a link to MyAirBridge where the content is hosted, and a password to access the folder. Follow the link, agree to the terms if you haven't used MyAirBridge before, input the password and start downloading!

MyAirBridge link and password
If you are new to MyAirBridge, hit 'I Agree' here

There is a lot of content, 5.28GB and 2768 files to be exact, so I recommend breaking it up into smaller portions rather than downloading all at once. You can do this by selecting one file/folder (or multiple at once using the ctrl/cmd key) and choosing how you want to download it. I would recommend the ZIP archive option if you are downloading more than one folder at a time. You can also browse the folders and subfolders within MyAirBridge itself.

Select which content you want to download, then hit the download button in the top right

What is in the Complete Digital Bundle?

This is almost everything. As I explained in my previous post we have had to bring this release forward by a couple of weeks, so one or two items may be missing and there might be some errors we haven't had time to catch. If you notice any, please let us know so we can correct them and upload an updated version as soon as possible.

In the Complete Digital Bundle you will find:

  • Day, Night & Clean (Unfurnished) versions of every single map as JPEGs (for VTT/online use) and PDFs (to print at home). There are Grid and No Grid versions of each as well.
  • Adventure Modules for each book in colour and print friendly (PF) versions.
  • Cover Art for each book
  • All Creature Tokens from CR0 to CR10 as PNGs
  • The GM Screen art and interior tables
  • All Map Assets as PNGs
  • All 6 Music Tracks as looping and non-looping variants

This had not been announced yet, but the GM Screen interiors include 5e compatible rollable tables for all 6 books to help you quickly put together a random encounter or scenario. You can either choose or roll for a map and encounter difficulty, then reference the map category and your players level to get a suggested thematic encounter. Tokens for all of the creatures are also included in the Creature Tokens folder.

Example of the 'Forests & Villages' rollable quick-encounter tables in the GM Screen

For example, you roll a d20 getting a 15, and a d6 getting a 4. This would give you the 'Forked Path' map and a 'Medium' difficulty encounter. Forked Path is in the 'Under the Trees' category. If your players are Level 7, this would give you an encounter of 1 Werebear and 3 Black Bears. Alternatively you can choose which map to use and mix and match these encounters to your liking.

What's Next?

Any Digital Add-ons not included in the Complete Digital Bundle that were purchased through Backerkit will be released later this month.

VTT content will be released soon. They are about 60-70% finished on Alchemy and Foundry VTT, and about 50% done on Roll20. My hope is to get them to you this month, but with the turmoil caused by the OGL updates, there may be some changes required that push it back to next month.

We have some initial physical samples already from the factory and will be getting the second round of those in the next few weeks. The factory will be closed for a little while for Chinese New Year, but once it re-opens we will finalise the products and start mass-production. We are still very much on schedule to deliver by (and hopefully before) October this year.

As always, if you have any questions, feedback or concerns you can leave them in the comments here, email us at [email protected], or come and join our Discord Server and I will get back to you as quick as I can!

January Update 1.1 - Surveys Locking Tomorrow!
about 2 years ago – Sat, Jan 07, 2023 at 02:17:59 AM

Hey everyone!

I wasn't planning to put out another update so soon, but there has been news over the part 24 hours or so about the new 1.1 OGL (Open Gaming License) that Wizards of the Coast are planning. I won't go into the details here, you can read about it all in this Gizmodo article by Linda Codega, and some of the potential legal ramifications in this blog post by Noah 'My Lawyer Friend' Downs Esq, an IP lawyer who specialises in the gaming industry.

Suffice to say, this leak is bad news for all 3rd party creators and all fans of Dungeons & Dragons in general. It is important to note, this has not been officially commented on in any way by Wizards of the Coast themselves and may not come to pass, but the source has been deemed reputable by multiple large media outlets, and has at least in part been confirmed by Jon Ritter, Director of Games at Kickstarter itself.

How does this effect Into The Wilds?

Until we have more information, we will be working on the assumption that this new license will come into effect on January 13th which means bringing our plans forwards slightly. To ensure all of our Kickstarter content that utilises the current OGL1.0a (the PDF Adventure Modules & GMScreens) can be released we will be locking surveys tomorrow, Saturday January 7th, and charging cards on Monday January 9th. This will allow us to publish the digital content on or before January 12th to get ahead of any license changes on the 13th.

Please note that locking surveys means you will have 48 hours to make any changes, but after that you will not be able to change any information you have submitted about what you want to purchase, card details etc. You will still be able to update your shipping address at a later date once we start physical fulfilment, you will still be able to do your survey if you have not yet completed it (although you should try to do so ASAP), and new pre-orders will still be available.

The maps and map-books themselves are completely system agnostic and have no reliance on the OGL or any other license, so will not be effected by any changes to the OGL, but we will be releasing the digital copies of them as well, along with all other digital content that is ready to go.

What we don't yet know is how this will effect VTTs such as Foundry, Roll20 and Alchemy. The draft license very clearly calls out VTTs and materials created for them as not being covered under the new license, and they also claim it was never valid under the old one. While we will still be able to distribute the main VTT content which is not OGL reliant (all of the maps with dynamic lighting and the asset PNGs), it is possible we will not be able to deliver the Adventure Modules as VTT packs, which was the reward for our final stretch goal. I will keep you updated as soon as I know more, but at the moment the VTT companies themselves don't know what is going to happen. The VTT packs are unfortunately not complete yet and will not be ready in time to deliver before the 13th.

How can we help?

If you feel as aggrieved by this action from Wizards of the Coast and Hasbro as many of us do, and want to help convince them how foolish this new license would be, you can post on social media with the #OpenDnD.

If you have any questions about this please let me know and I will do my best to answer them, but a lot is unknown until Wizards make an official statement, and even then it may take some time to digest and understand all of the ramifications.

In the meantime, know that we are still working to deliver the best possible end product to you and your support means everything to us.

Tom
